Sewing Classes To Begin: The Bennettsville Recreation Department is now offering sewing classes for both males & females under the direction of Mrs. Leila Dillard of Blenheim. Mrs. Dillard comes to us with over 45 years of experience and we are so proud and excited to have her as our instructor. She will be teaching three different levels of classes: Beginner, intermediate, and advance. In order to take this class you will need your own sewing machine and if you don’t happen to have one Wal-Mart has one for you. This class is going to start in October so if you are interested in becoming a seamstress please give the recreation department a call at 843-454-2142 for more information. Let’s get sewing!Art Classes Offered: Mr. Chuck Collins is offering Art Classes at the Bennettsville Community Center for anyone interested in becoming an artist. He is teaching advanced and beginner classes on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:30 upstairs at the Center. Mr. Collins comes to us with over 20 years of teaching experience and we are delighted to have him on board as an instructor. Youth Karate: Mr. Darren Hilton a black belt professional is the instructor for the Bennettsville Recreation Department that meets on Tuesday evenings at 5:30. This class is for all ages and all abilities. Mr. Hilton’s class competes at regional and state competition events and they always win lots of awards which is a measure of their hardwork and discipline and mental will power. Kick Boxing Classes to Begin! : Gretchen Carlson says, “If I can do it, you can! Come join the fun as we lose weight and get healthy together.” Gretchen will be offering kick boxing classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursday nights from 5:00PM-6:00PM at the Bennettsville Community Center. The class is open to females ages 18 and older and the cost is $25.00 a month.

Second Annual Clara Hope Fund Festival
The Nehemiah Center of Hope will be hosting its 2nd annual Clara Hope Fund Festival to raise funds for colon cancer awareness on August 22, 2009, 4-9 PM at Carol Field in Bennettsville, SC.; Hosted by Jocee “The Jazz Lady” & “Tori” formally of Magic 94.3. The day will consist of educational information about colon cancer and overall wellness from the Center for Colon Cancer Research, American Cancer Society, and a host of local health agencies; as well as, inspirational entertainment in song, dance and spoken word by local artist. There will also be food vendors and fun activities for the kids.We need your support to raise awareness about a cancer that can be PREVENTED! So, bring your lawn chairs and umbrellas, come and join the fun! You are sure to receive food for the body, mind, and spirit! The admission for ages 12 –up is $5.00 and a portion of the proceeds from this event will be given to the South Carolina Colon Cancer Research of the University of South Carolina.

The City of Bennettsville proudly presents the Annual Summer Beach Blast at Lake Paul Wallace on Saturday, August 15, 2009, from 11:00AM – 11:00PM. Feature Band is The Craig Woolard Band from 7PM-11PM. DJ David Graham will provide entertainment from 11AM-3PM and Dan E. Lockemy from Sunny 105.5 will broadcast live his “At the Beach” show from 3PM-7PM. Admission is $5.00 for adults (8 & under free). Those who choose to use Lake Paul Wallace for boating on this Saturday will also be charged the $5.00 admission fee per person. Lots of Vendors on site, no grills in beach area please. Relay for Life Jail & Bail
The Christ United Methodist Church Relay for Life Team will have a Jail & Bail on Friday, May 18th, all day at Munnerlyn Field House at McAlpine Stadium, Marlboro County High School. A $10 fee will have someone served with a Relay Warrant for their arrest. The person receiving the warrant must appear before the judge for sentencing and will be placed in a makeshift jail until he or she raises the fine (not to exceed $100). Arrested persons will be given the opportunity to call friends, office workers, etc. to raise the money to pay off their fine to get them out of jail.
