Fly  in for BBQ at Stanton’s! 

One of the most unique and delicious places you can visit in Bennettsville is Stanton’s Fly-in BBQ. Located just outside of Bennettsville at 2828 Stanton Road, Stanton’s has been in business for 40 years. With a 2300 foot landing strip for pilot guests, you can fly your airplane almost to the front door!

It all began with Charles Lindberg Stanton who loved to fly. His love of flying has been continued since his death by his wife, Vera Meggs. She makes the BBQ sauce and keeps the flying tradition alive by welcoming pilots and drivers alike to Stanton’s BBQ. This unique restaurant has received lots of media attention including the late Paul Harvey who mentioned it on his national radio program. 

Stanton’s is open Wednesday through Sunday lunch and serves USDA licensed pit-cooked pork barbecue, a third generation tradition. You can reach them by telephone at 843-265-4855. 

Summer’s Fresh Bounty in Bennettsville!

With the long, lazy days of summer comes fresh produce right from the farm....McArthur’s Farm, that is, and the downtown Bennettsville Farmer’s Market.

Located on Highway 38 just out of downtown Bennettsville, McArthur’s Farm is the dream of owner Rebecca McArthur. She worked as a nurse and in agriculture before returning to her first love, farming. From strawberries to butterbeans, collards, potatoes, tomatoes, squash and corn you’ll find it all at this certified South Carolina Farmers Market. Rebecca also has bees and sells honey. Jams and jellies are made from her excess produce and made available at the market.

In the fall you’ll be able to enjoy the corn maze and pumpkin patch. Eventually there will be a greenhouse with spring and fall vegetables and flowers. Be sure to make this a stop on your visit to Bennettsville. Hours for McArthur’s Farm at Monday through Saturday 9 am until 6 pm and Sunday from 1 – 6 pm.

In downtown Bennettsville you’ll find another local farmers market open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Check out the selection of fresh produce grown by local farmers.

Be sure to visit these two farmers markets during the best of the summer produce season and stock up on all your fresh vegetables and fruits.

Coffee, songs and sausage! 

After taking in the farmers markets and shopping, refresh with a stop at the Jolly Bean in downtown Bennettsville (113 North Marlboro Street).  It’s the gathering place for the locals to meet, eat and talk current affairs!  There you can enjoy a latte or cappuccino with a homemade cookie made by the members of the Marlboro County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs. If you need a sandwich or hotdog they can fill that order as well! And if you’re lucky, maybe Ricky will serenade you with a song! The Jolly Bean is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m.

If you need to walk that cookie off from the Jolly Bean, walk over to the Breeden Grocery(133 Broad Street). For 83 years it has operated in downtown Bennettsville. Now you can get a SC certified product with their homemade sausage. Owner Cindy Stone sells locally produced items such as Blenheim Ginger Ale, grits and corn meal. You can get Angus beef cut to order, country ham, liver pudding and other foods. Family owned and operated, the Breeden Grocery is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m.
